The shift to platinum, however, changes the character of the watch. Measuring 40mm in diameter and still only 1.85mm thick, the case and integrated bracelet with satin-brushed and polished surfaces are now crafted entirely from this dense, noble metal. Compared to titanium, platinum brings weight but also manufacturing complexity.
On the dial side, the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon Platinum reveals subtle updates. Blue PVD accents appear on the skeletonised time display and mainplate, bringing contrast to the technical layout. The exposed ratchet wheel, in sandblasted steel with circular satin finish and geometric engraving, reinforces the mechanical aesthetic. As before, the display is reduced to essentials, with hours and minutes positioned off-centre and the flying tourbillon integrated directly into the main structure, at 5 o’clock.
Powering is the hand-wound calibre BVF 900, developed with Concepto. Operating at 28,800vph with a 42-hour power reserve, the movement relies on ball bearings and ultra-thin construction principles to minimise friction and height. The tourbillon is guided peripherally and integrated within the movement plane, a key factor in achieving such extreme thinness.
